Do you want to become a member?

Steps to membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Captain Richard Sopris Chapter, NSDAR:

  • Contact the group using our Contact Us page to attend a chapter meeting or event to meet us and explore what we do.
  • Gather your family history information to identify an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence between April 19, 1775 (Battle of Lexington), and November 26, 1783 (withdrawal of British Troops from New York).
  • Work with our chapter membership team to complete and submit your application.

To prepare for work on the application or before visiting with our membership team, please review this How To Join page provided by the National DAR. If you are comfortable, feel free to continue to the Genealogy page and work on the provided Pedigree Chart. But, if unsure where to start or you have not researched much of your genealogy, we are delighted to help you! Our chapter has an active membership team, including many women who are happy to help you with research and documentation, the application paperwork, and to introduce you to our chapter members, activities, and meetings. Please Contact Us! Let us help you identify your patriot ancestors.
DAR members are women who come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of interests. Their common bond is their lineal descent from patriots of the American Revolutionary War – any woman, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove this lineage is eligible to join. Your genealogy is the story of you. Are you interested in discovering your family story, or becoming a member of DAR?

Genealogical Research System (GRS)

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution provides this free system to help you with your genealogical research. The GRS is a collection of databases that provide access to the many materials amassed by DAR since its founding in 1890. DAR members across the country are passionate ambassadors for genealogical preservation and research, and the National Society is committed to being a premier provider of genealogical resources. The online databases are the culmination of 10 years of work by members volunteering to scan and index vast genealogical resources consisting of Bible records, marriage records, wills, deeds, obituaries or a variety of other records.
